What Is Generic Viagra?

Generic Viagra 25 mg and Generic Sildenafil 25 mg (Fildena 25 mg Purple Triangular Viagra Pills) work by increasing blood flow to your penis, making it easier for you to get an erection. Sildenafil, the active ingredient in both drugs, belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, or PDE5 inhibitors. As a PDE5 inhibitor, Sildenafil works by relaxing the muscle tissue that lines the walls of blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow to many parts of the body.

Active Ingredient: Sildenafil citrate.

Contrary to popular belief, drugs like Viagra and generic sildenafil won't randomly make you hard on their own. Instead, these drugs work by making it easier to get an erection when you're experiencing sexual stimulation. Sildenafil has been available since 1998 when it was approved by the FDA as an Erectile Dysfunction drug under the product name Viagra. Interestingly, sildenafil was originally discovered when Pfizer chemists were looking for a treatment for high blood pressure.

Thanks to its vasodilator effects, sildenafil initially appeared to be a promising treatment for angina pectoris, a form of chest pain, but the results were not robust enough to warrant further studies.

What Are The Uses Of Generic Viagra?

In some cases, sildenafil is still used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a form of high blood pressure that can affect the pulmonary arteries. Pfizer patented sildenafil in 1996. Two years later, in March 1998, the new drug, now called Viagra, received FDA approval and was sold as a prescription drug to treat Erectile Dysfunction. As the first oral medication for erectile dysfunction, Viagra became incredibly popular. Its blue color Viagra and diamond shape earned it the nickname "little blue pill" and large-scale TV advertising campaigns made it a drug almost everyone knew.

Pfizer's Viagra patent expired in 2012 for countries outside the US, allowing other brands to manufacture and market their own generic Viagra medications containing sildenafil. Although Pfizer challenged the expired patent in the United States, sildenafil has since become widely available as a generic drug and can be manufactured and marketed by a variety of different companies.
